    Robotic Huck Finn

    So, for those who haven’t heard, Twain scholar Alan Gribben and NewSouth Books plan on releasing a version of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn with a couple of replacements.  The book has been banned for the use of the words “nigger” and “Injun” from many libraries and schools.  Gribben wants to replace both of those words, the N-word with the word “slave” and In-word with “Indian”.  Basically, he wants to make a PC Huck because people seem to be unable to face some very uncomfortable truths about our history and the way people treated each other back then based solely on skin color.  Essentially, teachers feel that the cannot teach…

    Writing and Reading in Many Forms

    Something I’m finding interesting is thinking about the many forms of reading and writing that I’m doing of late. I’m editing my own writing, blogging, lesson planning for the youth group I help run, and writing content for a company that represents soccer players. I’m reading two books, multiple blogs a day, the textbooks of the kids I tutor, Native American myths, emails, other people’s writing, txts, game information, electronic conversations in many different formats, profile pages (i.e. facebook and myspace), children’s books, subtitles, and Japanese conversations and Japanese children’s books.     Job stuff

    So, recently I haven’t been writing or editing much. Well, except for good-bye letters to my kids. I haven’t even been reading much. You see, I, like so many others in this country, have lost my job. I will not be back teaching at the school that I have put my heart and soul into for two years. It doesn’t matter that I worked with 5 clubs (for free). It doesn’t matter that I’m certified in my subjects and passed all of the state tests. All that matters is that next year I will be on step 3 (that means that I will have been teaching 3 years) and that…
