Lovecraft Country: An Introduction
I do want to make it known that neither the book nor the HBO show are for children in any way. Both are created for adults who are critical thinkers and understand that fiction tells us the truths that are often too difficult to face in reality. It creates a space for us to be empathetic, to put ourselves in the shoes of people who live disparate lives, and to realize that, underneath it all, we are human beings who are more alike than we are different.

On The Help and Abilene Cooper
I have seen this article all over Facebook again and I thought I would give my two cents. The original case was thrown out based on the time it took for the woman to make her claim (the author gave her a book with a note that said she named her main character Abilene, but that it was based on the woman who raised her, a maid by the name of Demetrie McLorn). Let me start this off by saying that I think it’s silly that booksellers feel the need to state whether the romance in a novel is “Gay or Lesbian”. It’s not like we label books “Straight”. That said, if you are homophobic, don’t read this story. If you are not homophobic, but are unsure if you’ll be comfortable reading a story where two boys fall in love, go for it.
