I have a To Do List a mile long (which is next to absolutely no surprise if you know me) and have more books than I really know what to do with. I read incessantly and my collection of books is proof of this (really, I just need to buy a library and retrofit it to make a home of the place). Writers, Writerly Friends, and Friend Friends
So, everyone needs friends but it is especially important for writers and artists. Every once in a while we need a ninja kick to the brain and our friends are the best people to do this. Let me explain… I was having a hard time with past vs. present tense with my trilogy-now-a-series. The reason for this being that it is written in present tense currently, but that makes some scenes particularly harsh. It makes the first scene of the first book incredibly harsh. Reflections on a younger self…
So, after reading roughly 3,000 handwritten pages of my own writing I have come to several conclusions. 1. I was WAAAAAAY more knowledgeable at the age of 11 than I thought I was. At 11 I had connected the fact that trauma and abuse leads to alcoholism. Now, as I grew up in Seattle during the 80s and 90s, maybe its not such a stretch that I understood addiction, but I don’t remember really understanding alcoholism at the time.
